Reuse Or Add Printer: Global Calibration Library

This SOP explains how CS Ops decides whether a printer setup can be reused from the Global Calibration Library, or whether a new setup must be created and added after a successful run.

Inputs

  • Machine name
  • Material name
  • Parameter set name (the customer’s print settings preset name as recorded in Evidence; use [[PRESET_NAME_TBD]] if needed)
  • Global Calibration Library location: \General\03_Sales\04_Sales_Materials\09_Onboarding\Global Calibration Library

Library Structure (Source Of Truth)

GrabCAD Print exception: if the slicer is GrabCAD Print, follow GrabCAD Print Exceptions (Use with Main Workflow) for this step.

The library is organized by Machine names:

\General\03_Sales\04_Sales_Materials\09_Onboarding\Global Calibration Library\Machine_Name

Rules:

  • Any folder not explicitly marked _FAIL is reusable.
  • Use the latest reusable folder if multiple exist.

Step 1: Decide Your Reuse Path

Pick exactly one path:

Path A: Full Reuse (Skip Calibration)
Use this if there is a reusable folder for:

  • Same Machine name and
  • Same Material name and
  • Same Parameter set name or
  • Parameter set same except infill density.

If you only see a folder without _PASS or _FAIL label, assume it's reusable.

Path B: Reuse Layout Only (Still Calibrate)
Use this if:

  • The machine exists in the library, but there is no reusable match for the exact material and parameter set.

Advantage: You may reuse plate layout decisions/build projects as a reference for “how many parts should be placed per plate”. But you must still run calibration for the new material/parameter set.

Path C: New Printer Package (No Reuse Available)
Use this if:

  • The machine does not exist in the library at all, or there is no trusted package you can reuse.

You will create the build projects, calibrate, validate, and then add the package so future onboardings can reuse it.

Example Path C Decision:

Step 2: What To Do Next (By Path)

Path A: Full Reuse (Skip Calibration)

  • Reuse the artifacts from the latest reusable folder.
  • This means you must create the machine and the material in customer's 3D Spark organization using the previously generated machine and material parameters.
  • These parameters are stored as screenshots from the previous calibration.
  • If there is no screenshot, find out for which customer this calibration had been done, and extract the parameters from their organization.
  • Note that you should update the machine and material costs accordingly for the new customer.
  • Note that you can skip Calibration but you should still run the Validation step
  • Record in CS_Internal/Evidence/Onboarding_Execution_Note.docx that you reused the existing library package, including the library folder reference.
  • Copy the build projects from Global Calibration Library/[Location of existing calibration]/Validation Build Projects to CS_Internal/Validation_Run/Validation_Build_Projects
  • Path A does not create an additional workflow, go back to the main CS Ops Runbook and follow it except the calibration phase.

Path B: Reuse Layout Only (Still Calibrate)

  • You can watch the video above and come back here.
  • Use the library to reuse plate layout decisions/build projects as guidance for “how many parts per plate”.
  • Record in CS_Internal/Evidence/Onboarding_Execution_Note.docx what you reused (layout reference) and what you recalibrated (material/parameter set mismatch).
  • Copy the build projects:
from Global Calibration Library/[Location of existing calibration]/Calibration Build Projects to CS_Internal/Calibration_Run/Calibration_Build_Projects

    and

from Global Calibration Library/[Location of existing calibration]/Validation Build Projects to CS_Internal/Validation_Run/Validation_Build_Projects
  • Path B does not create an additional workflow, go back to the main CS Ops Runbook and follow it.

Path C: New Printer Package (No Reuse Available)

  • You can watch the video above and come back here.
  • Path C does not create an additional workflow, you should still stick to the CS Ops Runbook.
  • Record in CS_Internal/Evidence/Onboarding_Execution_Note.docx that this is a new printer package.

Completion Criteria

You are done when:

  • You selected Path A, B, or C based on the library structure.
  • The next path to execute is clear (Validation-only vs Calibration+Validation).
  • If mentioned above, existing Calibration and Validation projects were copied into the respective folders under CS_Internal
  • A note exists in CS_Internal/Evidence/Onboarding_Execution_Note.docx describing what was reused vs created and referencing the library folder (if applicable).
